The Royal Court Theatre to Stage a One-Day Performance at Tate Modern

have developed an event in partnership with Tate Modern to explore the relationship between art and theatre; BMW Live 2015: Staging Situations: Art and Theatre with the temporary and ephemeral Absence and Hope.
Absence and Hope is a performance inspired by the closure of Level 2 gallery previously known as Poetry and Dream. Temporarily renamed Absence and Hope, both the piece and the space have been designed to raise questions about the spaces that open when things go missing, and who you are -unwittingly -carrying around with you when you go to a gallery.
Throughout Saturday 31st October, theatre maker Rachel Mars will be holding open conversations about people, memory and invention to inform her piece using the artworks in the Energy and Process gallery as a point of departure.

Absence and Hope is part of the series BMW Tate Live 2015: Staging Situations: Art and Theatre: artists, curators, actors, theatre directors and writers create unique situations for the public to engage with ideas around the museum and its collection as a stage for performance, speech, choreography and dramatisation. Building on the legacy of Surrealism, Futurism, Dada and Fluxus, the series offers a playful journey into the staged and the theatrical.
Rachel Mars is a performance maker. Her work is influenced by theatre, live art and comedy. She is currently interested in exploring cultural behaviours as a social and political construct. Rachel has been previously commissioned by Royal Court Tottenham, Fuel Theatre, Home Live Art and Ovalhouse.
