Royal Court Wins Three 2015 Evening Standard Theatre Awards
Published on Mon 23 Nov 2015The Royal Court Theatre was recognised in three categories at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards last night (Sunday).
Molly Davies won Most Promising Playwright for God Bless The Child directed by Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone.
God Bless The Child opened in Jerwood Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court in November 2014, as part of the Royal Court’s Jerwood New Playwrights programme, supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation.
David Moorst won the Emerging Talent award for his role in Violence and Son by Gary Owen and directed by Royal Court Artistic Associate Hamish Pirie in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs.
Anna Fleischle won Best Design for Hangmen by Martin McDonagh, directed by Matthew Dunster. Hangmen opened in Jerwood Theatre Downstairs at the Royal Court in September 2015, and is opening in the West End at the Wyndham’s Theatre on 1 December 2015 for a limited run until 5 March 2016.
The transfer of Hangmen is produced by Robert Fox, Matthew Byam Shaw for Playful Productions and Royal Court Theatre Productions.
The winners were announced in a ceremony at the Old Vic theatre on Sunday evening.
The Royal Court Theatre received five nominations in total.
Martin McDonagh’s latest play Hangmen was nominated for Best New Play and Diana Nneka Atuona was nominated for Most Promising Playwright for Liberian Girl.
